One of the Middle Age Timisoara legends

One of the most thrilling legend uncovered by the general public relates to the oath of a Hungarian King, made in the Timisoara’s Castle named Hunyad Castle, which had tragic consequences for the sovereign after being violated.

“This is the oath of a king made in the Hunyad Castle in November of the year of 1456.

King of Hungary, Ladislau the fifth, called Postum an enemy of the Hunyad family, came to Timisoara after Iancu of Hunedoara was buried. Here there are splendid parties, tournaments and feasts and one day the king swears in the castle chapel that he will be a friend of the widow Elizabeth and if he breaks his promise, to be punished by God.

After two months of feast, he goes to Buda town along with two Hunyad widow sons, Ladislau and Matia.

Ladislau will be challenged to a duel by Uncle King, Ulrich von Cilli, who will die during the duel. Because King Ladislau had been raised by Uncle Ulrich, after the duel that von Cilli lost his life, the sovereign would demand the decapitation of Ladislau. Matia Corvin will be sent as a prisoner to Prague.

In this way, the king Ladislau will broke the oath to Elizabeth the widow of king Iancu of Hunedoara. Exactly one year after that oath the king Ladislau dies and some say that he died by being poisoned.

Matia Corvin will reach to be King of Hungary” said the historian Ioan Hategan.
